Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termites are a ground dwelling termite. They
live and nest in the soil. There colonies can be located anywhere
up to three hundred feet from the structures they are attacking.
Each colony can consist of over one million colonists. The
queen of each colony can live up to thirty years. A mature
subterranean termite colony can ingest up to a pound of wood
a day.
In most cases, subterranean termites will attack a structure
from more than one direction. They may find their way in through
a plumbing line, a crack or cold joint in the cement, from
the stucco line up the foundation wall and many other areas.
Often they can be found in other cellulous matter such as
wood landscaping and wooden fences around the property. If
this is the case, then there is a good chance there are attacking
your home or office as well.
It doesn't matter if your home or office is built on a slab
or raised foundations. Subterranean termites will find their
way in. All they need is 1/32 of an inch to gain access to
the structure they are attacking. That's about the width of
a dime. As a result it is not uncommon for subterranean termites
and the damage they create to go un-noticed for years.
